Snake 2 with levels
Our tribute to the legendary Nokia Snake II. Every five apples raises the level: the game gets faster and new obstacle layouts appear on the board.

What makes Snake 2 different
When Nokia released Snake II in 2000 it added the thing the original never had: progression. Mazes, levels and a sense that the game was fighting back. Snake 2 on this page follows that blueprint. You start on an open board, and every five apples the level counter ticks up, the snake accelerates, and a new arrangement of walls is stamped onto the arena.
The obstacle layouts rotate through five hand-built patterns - bars, crossed rooms, columns, a broken frame and a zigzag gauntlet. Because the walls change while your snake is already long, the mid-game becomes a routing puzzle: the safe circuit you were running on level 3 may simply not exist on level 4.
How levels work
- Level up: every 5 apples, up to level 9.
- Speed: each level shaves the step time, so level 9 is genuinely quick.
- Obstacles: new wall patterns appear from level 2 onwards. Walls never spawn directly on top of your snake.
- Scoring: one point per apple, with your best run saved in your browser.
Strategy for high levels
Treat every level change as a reset of your mental map. The moment the walls move, stop hunting the apple and spend a second tracing a safe loop through the new layout. On the column and frame layouts, the gaps are wide enough for a long snake to thread through, but only if you enter them straight, never diagonally through a queued double-turn.
