The Google Snake Game
Since 2017, one of the world's most played snake games has been hiding inside a search box. Here is how to launch it, what its modes do, and how our free games compare.
How to play the Google snake game
- Go to google.com and search for "snake game" (or just "play snake").
- A play card appears at the top of the results. Click or tap Play.
- Steer with the arrow keys, or swipe on mobile. Eat apples, avoid the walls and your tail.
No download, no account, and it works on both desktop and mobile. It is an official Google easter egg, added in 2017, and it remains one of the most searched hidden games on the internet.
Modes and settings worth knowing
The gear icon inside Google's game hides a surprising amount of variety: board sizes from small to large, speed settings, and fruit variations that change how much you grow per bite. Playing on the small board at high speed is a completely different sport from the default, and the settings menu is half the fun of the easter egg.

Tips that work in Google Snake (and here)
- One key press per corner. Queued double-taps are the number one killer.
- Sweep the board in S-shaped passes once you get long; never wander.
- Approach apples so your exit stays open, especially along walls.
